ChapterJump Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 23, 2026
ChapterJump is a browser extension that shows the chapters of the YouTube video you are watching in a floating panel. It is built to work entirely on your device.
What the extension collects
Nothing. ChapterJump does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal or usage data. It has no analytics, no advertising, no accounts and no servers.
What is stored on your device
The following is saved in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so the extension remembers your preferences:
- panel settings: theme, auto-scroll, thumbnails, whether the panel is shown, and the auto-skip switch and keywords;
- panel position, size and collapsed state;
- bookmarks you create: the video ID, the video title, the time in the video, the name you gave it, an optional note and when it was created;
- the date the extension was installed and whether it was installed during early access, used to decide which features are available;
- local usage counters: the number of chapter jumps, the number of days the panel was used and the most recent of them, and whether you answered the "rate ChapterJump" prompt. They are used only to decide when to show that prompt once.
This data never leaves your browser and is deleted when you remove the extension.
The only exception is a single yes/no flag, "installed during early access", which is also kept in chrome.storage.sync. If you are signed in to your browser with sync turned on, the browser syncs this flag to your other devices so that the early-access benefit survives a reinstall. The flag contains no personal data, and ChapterJump never sees or receives it anywhere else.
What the extension reads
On https://www.youtube.com/* pages only, ChapterJump reads the chapter titles and timestamps that are already on the page, the video title, and the playback position of the video, to display and highlight chapters and to loop or skip chapters when you turn that on. This information is processed locally and is not stored or sent anywhere, except for bookmarks you save yourself as described above.
Network requests
ChapterJump sends no data to anyone. The only network requests it causes are thumbnail images loaded from YouTube's own image server (i.ytimg.com): chapter thumbnails in the panel, and video thumbnails on the bookmark library page. Links you open from the extension (a video, the store page, the help page or the pricing page) are ordinary page visits.
When you remove the extension, the browser opens a short page on the ChapterJump website that asks why. Nothing is attached to that address and nothing is sent unless you choose to write to us from that page.
Exports and copied links
When you copy a link or export bookmarks, the text is placed on your clipboard or saved as a file on your computer. ChapterJump does not keep or send a copy.
Permissions
storage: saves the settings, layout, bookmarks and counters listed above on your device.activeTab: lets the toolbar button show or hide the panel in the current tab when you click it.- Access to
www.youtube.com: the content script that renders the panel runs only there.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. If paid plans are introduced, this policy will describe any payment or license data before it is used.
